What’s the difference between Gold Proof Coins and Gold Bullion Coins??

Gold Proof Coins are specially minted coins for collector value. When they are minted, the operator of the minting press polished the field surface of the coin (the unraised portion) and thus gives it a mirror-like image. On proof coins you will have a the unpolished region that clearly stands out from the mirror-field of the coin. When proof coins are graded they are usually graded like so…ex: Proof 70; Proof 70 Cameo; Proof 70 Ultra/Deep Cameo. The Cameo of a proof coin refers to how well the raised, detail portion of a coin doesn’t reflect an image. These coins have been minted at: Philadelphia (P) and West Point (W).

Conversely, regular bullion coins just have no polish on the field of the coins, and do not have a mint mark appear on them, except for the rare 1999 error piece. They are graded by Mint State quality.
